A wasted hour

Yesterday i attended a seminar where Benny Morris, an Israeli historian from Ben Gurion University in Beersheva, was supposed to be explaining the Palestinian – Israeli conflict. Deceived by the title of this seminar, ”a window of opportunity” i was expecting a completely different speech. Even the rumors that flourished in Sweden previous to his visit lured me to believe that this seminar is of a great importance and would bring something new. However, it didn´t. blamed the whole conflict on the Arab people, accusing them of barbarism. He defined the  Arabs as Muslims and described them as not trustworthy, greedy and stupid people. The one hour that the seminar took was wasted on Benny Morris´s subjective descriptions of selective facts.

The real reason for his visit is the creation of political support for the forthcoming ” nuclear” war against Iran. Of course to do so he had to admit that Israel has nuclear weapons.  But Israel being a very rational and civilized state, as he put it will not use these weapons. However, the threat posed by the Iran, he stressed, is very real and Israel would have to defend itself against ”the second Holocaust” even it meant using its nuclear weapons. As always, it prefers that the US would do the job. Well, as you already figured out ”War on terrorism” is being replaced by ”the second Holocaust”. The supposedly liberal world we are living in,  causes destruction, damage and suffering under the umbrella of very big empty words.

I´ll let his own words explain his radical ideas. See his interview in Haaretz where he explains  “…maybe he [Ben-Gurion] should have done a complete job. I know that this stuns the Arabs and the liberals and the politically correct types. But my feeling is that this place would be quieter and know less suffering if the matter had been resolved once and for all. If Ben-Gurion had carried out a large expulsion and cleansed the whole country – the whole Land of Israel, as far as the Jordan River. It may yet turn out that this was his fatal mistake. If he had carried out a full expulsion – rather than a partial one – he would have stabilized the State of Israel for generations … Yes. The non-completion of the transfer was a mistake … The Israeli Arabs are a time bomb. Their slide into complete Palestinization has made them an emissary of the enemy that is among us. They are a potential fifth column. In both demographic and security terms they are liable to undermine the state. So that if Israel again finds itself in a situation of existential threat, as in 1948, it may be forced to act as it did then.”
